| This portfolio displays a range of our previous works, illustrating both the varied nature of the jobs we undertake, and the quality of design, materials and workmanship that form our standard. As well as these larger projects (and those listed above) we have made numerous doors, frames, tables, items of free-standing furniture, fitted and unfitted cupboards, bookcases, plain and ornamental porches and balconies, summerhouses... the list goes on. If its made of timber, we do it. (Most of the images can be expanded by clicking on them.) |
| Projects large and small are given the amount of attention required to achieve the design - with no exceptions. A constant process of rolling consultation ensures, moreover, that the designs can change organically as work progresses. There are few tasks that cannot be improved as new opportunities come to light; and the experience of a lifetime of craftsmanship aims to improve on every one. |
| All but the simplest designs must be overseen in their entirety by the joint architects of client and creator. There is a perfect time for every decision; and the original plans and specifications may turn out to be little more than a foundation and guide. |
|
Attention to Detail. There is only one perfect jointing programme for drawers, and it has been in use for hundreds of years. The same is true of doors, windows, stairs. In combination with well-chosen materials and a properly-proportioned design the result is an artifact that is simply right.

| Our best reference is our work. Without exception, all our our previous clients are happy to show our work to prospective new customers, and to provide testimony to our professionalism. All projects are local, and can be visited and examined at close range by appointment. |

Atmosphere
A useful way of thinking about the spaces we occupy is through considerations of the atmospheres they can supply. A kitchen might function as a cheery friend through the day, bright with well-placed artificial lighting or absorbing and reflecting the changing moods of season and weather to permit a sense of connection to the world outside. In the dark of evening various lighting arrangements allow the creation of a range of moods to suit different occasions.

|
There is mass-production, there is 'individually - made'... and there's the genuine article; timeless, inimitable. A small, local, workshop that directs design and execution in-house can deliver the best that is possible. This is the only form of organization that capable of engaging with a client's evolving ideas. |
| The remaining photographs give an idea of the variety of work undertaken by Sutton Joinery. |

| Above
left, softwood bedroom furniture using matched ply, which could be painted
in a number of ways. Above right our solid Oak refectory
tables are indistinguishable from those that might have been built in,
perhaps, the 17th Century. The same can not be said of the
mass-produced phonies available from the more expensive furniture stores.
Below left an English Oak Stable Door is a permanent high-security solution that brings to its setting the unique aesthetic qualities of style and material. Below right a kitchen corner cupboard in traditional Edwardian style. |
